First Thoughts on AEW Rampage

AEW added to its weekly block of show in the past week with AEW Rampage a new one hour show on Friday's on TNT. While you could argue the Rampage in the United Centre titled 'The First Dance' is the real debut for the show (for obvious reasons) I feel that we got a glimpse into how this show will be.

I do wish that the set up was somewhat different to Dynamite just to differentiate the show. It sounds different with its commentary team but I wish something would be done with the stage. Maybe just the one tunnel switch the Cody entrance out for everyone using it. When discussing this with other people it was a talking point to how to make the show different. It could be something minimal like having the middle rope be Orange or bring back the old mat that had the AEW logo on it. To take a page from the old 205 stuff when it was on Raw where the logos were in the corner and the ropes were Purple so you knew the change and what was happening. People remember stages I mean how long have people been talking about the Smackdown Fist? Stages are important and it would just be nice to a different stage for Rampage but we will see.

A four man commentary booth is a bit much although Mark Henry only was there was one match it was too much I think 3 is the maximum. Mark being there for the opening match and then doing pre and post match interviews is cool is something different to Dynamite as I was saying. If Jericho could calm down the shouting it'd be nice as it hinders the commentary I felt that Jericho's inclusion was unnecessary but if Henry is really only done a match a show I guess they wanted it to be a different commentary team in a small capacity to Dark (why you don't want the A team itself on TV is beyond me) but it's a work in progress.

All in all it has to be looked at that this was the first week for this new show and over time it should be built up to be something different to Dynamite. I'm interested how the show begins to look post The First Dance and All Out as we should start to see the main ideas and flow of the show being worked out. The presentation for a debut show or first few tends to be different I mean The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega featured a fair bit on the few lot of AEW Dark shows and that was even before they had the announce team for the show figured out. Regardless of nit picks it's still a great show now I'm sure The First Dance will be a regular hour of TV with no major talking points.
