Changes I’d Make To The AEW 2027 PPV Slate

Look I know it’s only halfway through 2026 and here I am looking at 2027. But I’m thinking and when I think I have to write it down so the ideas leave my mind. As this one states it’s all about changes I’d make to AEW and their PPV line up in 2027. Look next year is 8 years for AEW the format has been added on and fixed in place (mainly in terms of having your AEW UK show in August whatever it’s called more than anything). Originally Double or Nothing was the top show and then replaced with All In. For 2027 I want to reflect on how I’d change things around a little bit and just explain that reasoning. I’m not on the business side of AEW maybe some of this is impossible I dunno but it’s fun to just speculate. As a caveat I won’t be removing any PPV or changing the names. I don’t think AEW will despite my issues with Forbidden Door as a name.

All In

Starting with All In and I’d take another break from it being in the UK. Ticket sales aren’t exactly booming and I think Wembley has been a fantastic servant but might be time to park it for a bit. Now the main issue would be where do we move All In? Well my first choice would be Estadio Azteca rub in partnership with CMLL. It’s a big venue like Wembley but in Mexico instead of England. I think this gives good potential to sell big especially if you market a big dream match on the show. I have two ideas to move big numbers being either Mistico winning an AEW singles title (I think International) or having him in a dream match with Omega, Ospreay or Okada (maybe all 4 for International title they’re all from different countries after all). A once in a lifetime match would be needed and Mexico’s biggest draw should be the hook. If you do Misitco vs. Okada you could then also do Ospreay vs. Omega providing you’ve not done it before that (doubtful as I expect that to be an Ospreay title defence).

Forbidden Door

Gonna be out there with this one. I think this should be an all Women’s show next year. If we’re not replacing the name of the show for some all women’s show name I will just use it and it works. Look imagine a show where at minimum the following championship are defended

AEW’s Women’s World Championship

AEW’s TBS Championship

AEW’s Women’s World Tag Team Championship

ROH Women’s World Championship

New Japan’s IWGP Women’s Championship

New Japan’s STRONG Women’s Championship

CMLL World Women’s Championship

CMLL World Women's Tag Team Championship

RevPro Undisputed British Women's Championship

STARDOM’s World of Stardom Championship

STARDOM’s Goddesses of Stardom Championship

You can throw in the other belts for STARDOM and CMLL as well.

STARDOM’s Wonder of Stardom Championship

STARDOM’s Artist of Stardom Championship

STARDOM’s High Speed Championship

CMLL’s Japan Women's Championship

All in all that would be 15 matches all title matches which would be a first for AEW (and I think a first for wrestling since WWE first few night of champions shows in what 2008?). I’d like that I don’t want to go to 17 with STARDOM’s New Blood Tag Team and Future of Stardom championships or even the ROH Women’s TV & Pure championships but maybe Tony would. Make it the full spectacle. I dunno people wonder why NWA never done another all women’s show while ignoring the amount it was illegally streamed compared to buys making it a PPV flop this would be the perfect time to put your women where your mouth is and support women’s wrestling worldwide on one show instead of just tweeting about it for likes. All titles all spectacle I’m sure the stopwatch bridge would complain if one match got less time than others. If need be host this in the UK I think it should draw a crowd anywhere but would be strongest there. But more in the UK later.

Japan

Now what of AEW doing a PPV in Japan? To me it’s a no. I think for the most part AEW needs to test water with a TV taping before doing more. I instead of a PPV or joint venture in that regards with New Japan at minimum I’d like to argue for Grand Slam: Japan. Much like in Mexico and Australia the Grand Slam moniker is to be used for bigger than normal TV shows in different countries now which I like. Imagine the Budokan (but I’d also run Korakuen Hall so you can say AEW has run there) with big names on the card like Ospreay, Omega have a big title change with talents that the Japanese crowd love (perfect place for Omega to win the National or Continental title imo) and should be good crowd for it.

UK

Now I said I’d bring up the UK again and honestly first of all I’d change when the show is being run. Yes August bank holiday is good and if you wanted to run the all women’s forbidden door show I pitched that would work but I think that a 2 for 1 in December could be the move. What do I mean for a 2 for 1 well imagine this. Saturday the Copper Box in London you do ROH: Final Battle and then the Sunday you do AEW: World’s End. UK fans feel shortchanged losing All In? Well they get two big shows with consequential to all AEW programming. Final Battle can feel like ROH’s biggest show as I imagine it’d pull a good crowd and the Continental Classic finals get decided in the UK which the C2 normally dominates and is the most important part of programming for the last part of the year. I think it’s a good compromise even for a year if All In leave Wembley for a few years you can always chop and change.

That’s what I’d do. I think most of the format is solid enough especially this year where Double or Nothing the second biggest PPV on the AEW calendar wasn’t a set up show for All In like 2025 was it has its life back. I think this would allow for some unique situations in 2027 and keep things fresh. But as for what will happen? Well we will have to wait and see.
