Quick Thoughts: AEW Full Gear 2024
Another year, another Full Gear. It's weird that I really don't remember much of last years show outside of the Texas Death Match and people really hating the main event. Regardless I've quite liked the build to the show I know I feel like that isn't a common thought. The Mox title run I have enjoyed but I have to be honest I still see the main event as a filler for Darby to win the belt a Worlds End but we will see.
Again the pre-show seems thrown together last minute with just a good match for the sake of a good match (which I am fine with) so not real need to comment on it. I will speak on 'The Costco Guys' it is a thing I don't understand but if it leads to more people watching the show and buying tickets then it is a plus for AEW in the end. It might not be for me but I can't disagree on doing this considering the potential reach.
Main Card:
AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) (c) vs. The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) vs. Kings of the Black Throne (Malakai Black and Brody King) vs. The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster)
Good for Private Party finally winning the titles. It seems a quick change as well as a long time coming. Hopefully they have a good run and really grow into being champions. While I like The Outrunners this isn't the time for a title change and it feel like they are on the way to a tag match with FTR, King of the Black Throne don't think should win and The Acclaimed just need to split up now thanks. A fine match nothing too special and it served more to be about splitting The Acclaimed which can't come soon enough.

MJF vs. Roderick Strong
Weird build to this with another beat some guys to get a match. I kinda realised Adam Cole wouldn't make it to this as him vs. MJF would be a year from their split at Worlds End. Nice for Roddy to get a PPV singles match, I'm thinking it is his first since losing the International title to Ospreay. Was a well worked match but I just don't really care for the build as you knew MJF was winning for the eventual MJF vs. Cole.

AEW TBS Championship Match: Mercedes Moné (c) (with Kamille) vs. Kris Statlander
Can't tell if this is just a feud regarding a title match or super personal let's try to run over Statlander feud. All I can really tell is Kamille sucks in her role and I don't think she has delivered on what she can. This match fucking ruled but the ending was a bit odd. Regardless, super match and I'd argue the best for Mercedes in her AEW run.
Jay White vs. "Hangman" Adam Page
Both of these guys are great. I always feel like both shouldn't lose but as Jay White won at Wrestledream I could see a Hangman win here and then a tie breaker at some point. A fine match as good as you'd expect from two great wrestlers I dunno felt it was missing something. I guess it is weird for Hangman to go into a feud post Swerve and not be setting peoples houses in fire feels he doesn't hate Jay White as much as Swerve. I was surprised Jay White won again keeping him strong, maybe he will win the Continental Classic that'd be nice. I guess we will see.
Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher
One of the more personal feuds on the show and honestly what needs to be a star making performance for Kyle Fletcher as a singles wrestler. You would always expect an Ospreay PPV match to be good. I really enjoyed this match but I mean I always enjoy Ospreay matches so its not a shock. Right man won but shocked it was done clean, a great move for Kyle but now they need to keep it up with the follow up.
AEW TNT Championship Match: Jack Perry (c) vs. Daniel Garcia
Could we have Daniel Garcia win here please? I don't have much to add here but I loved the kidnapping and tying Jack Perry to his shitty bus that was fun. Felt bad for this match following Ospreay vs. Fletcher as my focus wasn't fully there. Right call, the last few moments were good but yeah good title change.
AEW International Championship Match: Konosuke Takeshita (c) vs. Ricochet
I feel like Takeshita is winning regardless seeing his match January 4th with Shingo Takagi is set up to be title for title winner take all, same with Ricochet he's likely got a IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match on January 5th and I don't see him going in as International Champion.

Swerve Strickland vs. Bobby Lashley
Always a big fan of Boddy Lashley. From his return to TNA he's seemed to click in a way with wrestling that many hoped in his initial WWE run. I don't get how WWE had nothing for this guy but he's someone who can instantly be a threat to everyone in AEW. They kicked the shit out of each other and it was fun, not an outright squash but really puts Lashley over strongly. Now it depends how they wish to go be it a rematch or something else but I think The Hurt Syndicate story is just starting.
AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Orange Cassidy
As mentioned at the start I think this is set up for Darby to 'save' AEW at Worlds End (and probably drop the belt to Christian 10 minutes after) but I don't think that should take away from this match in itself. Both men are great wrestlers and they have had great matches together. Despite all I said that briefcase shot I bit on Orange winning so fair play great match.
The post match stuff was odd with Hangman I guess he hates Mox still. Is Jay White getting a big push or something I dunno. I guess that's the hook for Dynamite? Darby driving car into another one and hurting himself ok I guess tune into Dynamite.
All in all this was an ok to pretty fun show. With a comapny being five years old not every show can be the best of all time but this was a show that was fine in most places, fun in some and really good in others, nothing bad in my opinion just good solid wrestling. With one last PPV for AEW this year and the Continental Classic coming up it will be interesting to see the field for that and how the audience responds to a more wrestling heavy show in the next month.
