What's Next For The Belt Collector Kenny Omega?

On April 25th 2021 Kenny Omega once again made history at Impact Wrestling Rebellion. With winning the Impact World Championship, Kenny Omega became the world champion of two separate companies at the same time (3 counting Mexico's AAA). While not a unification match like 1988 SuperClash 3 where WCWA Champion Kerry Von Erich lost his belt to AWA Champion Jerry Lawler in where the WCWA Championship was merged into the AWA Championship here all these belts remain separate around one man. It got me thinking where does this go next or where does Omega go next.

Before I delve into possibilities I do need to state I am a fan of Kenny Omega. I feel a lot of people dislike him to get hits on social media but I can understand he isn't everyone's cup of tea. Regardless, to me Omega is one of the best around currently and that's reflected in what will be a legendary career when all said and done (if being world champion for 4 different companies in 3 different countries isn't enough you just need to look at the matches he's had). A lot of people don't attribute much to Dave Meltzer and his star ratings but Omega holds the record for highest rated singles match (7 stars with Kazuchika Okada at 2018's New Japan Pro Wrestling Dominion) and the highest rated tag match (6 stars with Adam Page against the Young Bucks at 2020's All Elite Wrestling Revolution). I tentatively put a shelf life on this gimmick to All Out be that in August or September as I feel that will be when Adam Page wins the AEW title so roughly 3 months from now. With that being said I want to rattle off a few possibilities for this gimmick.

Personally, I would love to see Omega win the NWA title. Since the pandemic hit and talent left all hype and intrigue around the NWA has gone. With Powerrr being behind a paywall I see less and less of it. I get the company needs to make money but man you need eyes on the product but it feels like they don't have it. Would Omega bring eyes to the NWA again?  I don't know but I think at a minimum people would be talking. The bigger question is would Aldis drop the belt? Probably not, he needs to reach 9,000 days as champ. I think for the buzz the company would get (and for Cornette freaking out) it is worth it. AEW and NWA have a good relationship and this would certainly benefit the NWA getting the belt onto someone that people talk about.

But what past that? With travel restrictions it would limit what you can do and even with that some companies are on hold. I'd love to see Omega win a belt in Canada for somewhere like SMASH Wrestling so he's a world champion in America, Mexico and then Canada. It'd be really interesting  to see that but I don't know if these is possible.

While I'm sure that many would be hopeful to see Kenny Omega as the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and even with the forbidden door open I still don't see this happening. I imagine the IWGP belt is locked in it's booking baring any injuries. Whatever they have planned I don't think involve Kenny. But what if there's a different Japanese company they would do it. I keep thinking that if it gets possible with the easing of travel restrictions I can't help but think of DDT and their KO-D Openweight Championship which Omega has previously held. I know that New Japan are apparently taking time off for the Olympics I don't know if DDT would do the same but could you imagine seeing Jun Akiyama on Dynamite? Now that would be cool. Also why were are here if Kenny wants to take the GHC belt from Mutoh please do. I love Keiji Mutoh but he's nearly 60 and it makes me quite sad to see his body break down in the ring as he continues to perform in high profile matches.

My mind keeps going over what if this continues past losing the AEW title? What if by then Omega takes time away from AEW and travels the world winning belts all over before coming back? I fine it weird how an idea of one man winning the top belts of other companies has so much ground to cover. For now I don't think a further path will be revealed until post Double or Nothing if any other companies are involved in this. While I wait in hope for the next belt for the belt collector and can only look at this being a tremendous accomplishment of companies working together under one idea and hope that others will see a benefit to it.
