Combined Regen Eleven: Football Manager 2020-21

With a total of 12 seasons over 2 games I have held interest and record of 109 regens from 48 different nations it is fair to say I hold a vested interest in a large amount of time an effort into developing regens even if they do not end up making a first team appearance for me and I end up sending them out on loan I always make sure to track their developments. Having a developed plan for regen development allows for long term growth and success and that is what us seen in my teams. Since the end of my time with Football Manager 2020 I have been detailing my regens and which one's top my preference for a best 11 over both of these teams. As ever this team will follow the 4-2-3-1 formation I use for all teams. For this I have considered the regens of both Chelsea and Dagenham saves as well as the smaller saves using both the American and Norwegian international teams. With that in mind my combined 11 as it stands is the following:

Goalkeeper: Wanderly Junior - Chelsea
Starting with the number 1 of the team. This was more a race between Wanderly for Chelsea and Khalid for Dagenham but the Chelsea man won out in the end. If I am honest this would've been a closer contest if Khalid didn't go AWOL before a Champions League final. Overall I enjoy the story of Wanderly more, he arrived for cheap from Brazil and over time established himself as not only my number one but that of Brazil and the world's best goalkeeper. The gradual development to replace Donnarumma as my goalkeeper and become the best in the world. It helped he never stayed out the night before a champions league final.

Left Back: Chris Jones - Chelsea
At left back is another player from Chelsea with the American international. One thing I found out when doing this is I tend to get a full back and stick with them in at least one area. While my right back changed a lot at Chelsea Chris Jones stayed the course from debut. I had thought of Junior Rochester here but Chris Jones took it from him being more of an out and out left back and not changing positions constantly helped cement Chris Jones as my favourite left back.

Centre Backs: Josu Mena - Chelsea & Akeem Harriette - Dagenham & Redbridge
The centre back pairing have both come from the respective academies of each save. Josu from Spain and Akeem from England. I'd honestly bank on this being an actual great partnership. Josu is more of a ball playing defender while not being good with his feet not the best in the air. Josu is almost a complete opposite to the towering Akeem who pretty much never losses aerial duels but his passing isn't the best. It seems I have gone from one end to the other when it comes to my favourite centre backs not expecting them to link up well.

Right Back: Roman Huk - Dagenham & Redbridge
Much like Chris Jones it's a case of one right back leads the way here in Roman Huk representing Dagenham & Redbridge. A consistent no nonsense full back much like Chris Jones that doesn't score a lot of goals but let's his defending do the talking for him. Iliev also was like this but Huk has been a cut above. A tough tackler who finds himself in key defensive positions my top right back and it will take a lot to take top spot from him.

Centre Midfield: Mark Buttigieg - Dagenham & Redbridge & Grant Green - Chelsea
Both central midfielders who came through the academy the first year. Mark more of a deep-lying playmaker, a set-piece specialist who captained England to the European Championships scoring in the final. Grant more of a Mezzala being part of the attacking 5 of the Chelsea team joining in the attack one of the best passers I have ever had and he also scored the 2 goals for when England won the World Cup. Both men are the centrepiece of their respective teams and two of the best. No other central midfielders come close from either team these are head and shoulders above the rest.

Wingers: Alekos Orfanos - Chelsea & Sam Ngata - Dagenham & Redbridge
Wingers were arguably the hardest part of the team to chose with this being a position I get the most amount of players through for. Unfortunately for Christian and Tomas of Chelsea and for Ranaldo and Djaniny for Dagenham but Alekos and Sam have been my definitive picks for what I look for in wingers. Alekos had all the flair in the world the skills and technique that made him the best goal scoring winger I had I don't remember a game that Alekos wasn't instrumental to our style of play, we looked worse without him. Sam is the definition of a big game player, every cup final, crucial league game Sam is there. I have lost count the amount of big games Sam scored. I've never seen a winger with as good heading as Sam not only could he cross a ball he could head it in as well. The only ever regens I have had from their respective countries of Greece & New Zealand and it makes me want to go back and use those countries more.

Centre Attacking Midfield: Giorgio Di Marco - Dagenham & Redbridge
Arguably the hardest call in a position which had three people in the running, between Giorgio for Dagenham and Chelsea having Mohamed Bertin d'Avesnes and Tarô Togawa but in the end Giorgio is the one who stood out the most to me. Giorgio could beat players with ease a lot more than the other two. While Mohamed and Tarô are good passers of the ball who could also cross and finish it was Giorgio who had a little bit more to his all around game over the other two which is why I have him as my best number 10.

Striker: Lucas Matheus  - Dagenham & Redbridge
This was also a tough call to make. On one hand the number 9 of Chelsea, Frenchman Johan Jouve a lethal striker more of a deep lying forward who could pick the ball up run past players and finish any angle any time. On the other hand is the chose Lucas Matheus, the Brazilian advanced forward hattrick hero for Brazil in the world cup final and the man who I can always rely on to score goals for the team. This was a difficult choice but I went with Lucas. While both were strong finishers I always found Lucas to be more consistent of the two. Johan could go 3 to 5 games without scoring and was often bailed out with by wingers like Alekos or my second striker Bernard Agnoly to do what he couldn't whereas Lucas only goes 1 game without scoring most of the time and unbelievably consistent striker which makes him my best.

Looking at this the team has an evened out as close as it can with 6 players from Dagenham and 5 players from Chelsea. It's pretty even which speaks to the overall quality of the two teams. A bench of seven would consist of the following

  1. Goalkeeper: Khalid Mohammad Mahmoud -Dagenham and Redbridge
  2. Full Back: Junior Rochester - Dagenham and Redbridge
  3. Centre Back: Joaquín Miño - Chelsea
  4. Centre Midfield: Ahmed Hassan - Dagenham & Redbridge
  5. Winger: Ranaldo Buttigieg - Dagenham & Redbridge
  6. Centre Attacking Midfield: Mohamed Bertin d'Avesnes - Chelsea
  7. Striker: Johan Jouve - Chelsea
Again this shows the shared quality with a split bench 4 to Dagenham & 3 to Chelsea I am interested if any future players on Dagenham's side is able to feature in this going forward and for teams in future Football Manager games to see if they can break into this strong line up.

As stated above, I am interested with continuing this with Football Manager 2022 and how the choices made in that game will eventually factor into these thoughts. I plan on doing a save in maybe France with OGC Nice or Spain with Athletic Bilbao I noticed my talent pool for this is skewed by two saves in England where the majority of players coming through youth academies are English so it would be interesting to see how that would change especially for Athletic and their transfer policy. But these may even change with me continuing the Dagenham save, I'm always looking for players to improve the team and there may be someone out there who takes a place in this team. But that remains to be seen.
