Quick Thoughts: AEW Dynasty 2026
Weren’t we just here a month ago? Yeah it’s the month after month run of AEW shows. I’d prefer to save money but if the shows have the quality that AEW have I don’t mind. The good thing is that the build has to happen and has to happen quick and between the World, Tag Team and the Ospreay grudge match you have big hooks and big matches set up right away and you hope the rest of the card gets that sort of love. AEW is on an upward trajectory carrying on from a good 2025 with American TV viewership booming even without HBO Max numbers it does seem like audiences are looking for an alternative to the slop served by the sex trafficking MAGA company which people somehow still watch. Anyway, this is a big show for me as it’s the first show for me on the new MyAEW service. With my Triller sub expiring on March 30th and the fact they won’t take new subs meant it was time to move as Triller moves further and further to bankruptcy. A sad end but a great service for supplying AEW content for the last 6 years. I hope the stream quality for live shows is good because I won’t be able to tell until Dynasty itself.
Zero Hour
Alex Windsor vs. Marina Shafir
Super interested in this match. Alex Windsor is seemingly a key part of AEW going forward week in week out after losing the Undisputed British Women's Champion and getting mauled by the Falcon and Marina Shafir has gotten really good in the ring. While this is just a match stemming from Ospreay vs. Moxley and not based off their own feud I still expect this to be a good contest. Decent stuff nothing special. 2.5/5
I'm not covering the Kamille return squash match lmao. No thank you.
AEW National Championship: Jack Perry (c) vs. Mark Davis
Good for Mark Davis. I honestly thought he'd be lost in the shuffle between Kyle Fletcher's singles push, Jake Doyle's injury and his own injury issues. He's become a good heavy heel for faces to overcome. Speaking off it's odd that Jack Perry never had a rematch with Ricochet to get a pin over him for the belt. Either way you'd expect a Jack Perry win here. Real good fun match, fast paced and man that falcon arrow on the apron was nasty work. 3.25/5
AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship: Divine Dominion (Lena Kross and Megan Bayne) (c) vs. Hyan and Maya World
I don't really get how Hyan & Maya World got a title match. I don't think they've won a match on AEW TV. Sure they've won on ROH and Maya World had a really good match with Athena but still I don't get it. Expecting a decent match with a Divine Dominion win. See you in August when you drop the title to The Brawling Birds. Good match with the babyface fighting from below but just not having enough. 3/5
Main Show
The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada
Huh?
I guess this is a thing. Odd match as it’s to set up a match next month
at Double or Nothing for Takeshita vs. Okada. But a PPV match just on
the basis to set up a PPV match next I’m sure it’ll be good but I dunno a
real get everyone on the card match. Expecting a Young Bucks win to set
up a match with Cope & Cage at Double or Nothing. Unsure how the
tag titles go have a feeling All In will be Bucks vs. FTR vs. Cope &
Cage in a TLC match that way Cope can refuse to be pinned again and
lose but let’s see. Okada adding to the list of times he's stolen Young Bucks, real fun opener good ending to build up more for Takeshita and Okada about time more shit was done for that. 4.25/5
Jericho vs. Ricochet
Hey guy Jericho is back in
AEW, urgh. Look I will be honest I wanted him gone I did, I think he
done well he could do and should go back to WWE for a final run. I don’t
know if the booking malpractice of Cena’s last run had a change in his
mind or they wouldn’t pay him what he wanted he is back now just
Jericho (is it all caps like KENTA I don’t know). I’ve not seen the go
home dynamite yet to see his promo but I dunno not a fan. Ricochet is a
good opponent he will bump and gets heat but yeah I just don’t care. This match went on too long and also so slow. Jericho man what a long run this is gonna be. 2/5
Andrade El Ídolo vs. Darby Allin
The first time these
two feuded it involved Andrade wanting to buy Darby from Sting as he
didn’t understand the concept of friendship which also gave us ‘ok how
you know’ so fun times. This is the match that makes me think MJF is
winning so that it’s MJF vs. Darby at Double or Nothing. I do think this
should be good, Andrade is an early shout for wrestle of the year and
Darby isn’t facing Death Riders or The Dogs so it’s fresh but interested
to see what this adds to the ongoing tension between MJF and The Don
Callis Family. I wish Samoa Joe was at the show to tell Darby no the star bump is bad. Enjoyable stuff right winner with Darby the expected challenger at Doyble or Nothing. 3.75/5
AEW World Tag Team Championship: FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) with Stokely vs. Adam Copeland & Christian Cage
Well
as mentioned months ago we’ve made it to the end game here of the last
tag title run of the team formally known as Edge & Christian. I
won’t ever knock a tag title reign for one of my favourite teams but was
ready for the match to happen despite how much I enjoyed the Young
Bucks match last month (and also assuming the Double or Nothing match is
Copeland & Cage vs. Young Bucks). I think this match would be
better suited to being an emotional old school affair. It’s a Canadian
crowd you need to have your old school cutting the ring in half, fake
hope spots for the hit tag etc etc, C&C (not the wrestle factory)
won’t give the best match on a move for move basis so would work better
playing on emotions. I’m interesting the how they approach this. Well lol I was wrong FTR won a real shock there. Good match but surprise winner on this interested in how theygo forward with C&C and FTR being 1-1 maybe a tie breaker is in the place. 4/5
Casino Gauntlet for the Vacant TNT Championship:
Ah man
sucks for Fletcher. I hope he’s able to heal up well and be back
stronger if he takes the time he needs off even at the cost at missing
All In but I don’t know the recovery time. This is however and
interesting time to see who wins the belt here. Do you go with someone
established and a previous champion or do you take a swing to a newer
guy never been champion before and build them up through that. I don’t
have a favourite or preferred winner so very interested in this one. Right winner for me in Kevin Knight well deserved win for a great talent. I did enjoy this one I hope that Kevin does a lot of open challenges especially with PAC let's go. 3.5/5
AEW Women's World Championship: Thekla (c) vs. Jamie Hayter
Very
happy to see this on the show. Really wanted a rematch from their match
at WrestleDream and it also delays The Brawling Birds feud for the tag
titles so that can peak at the right time at All In. Thekla has been
great since signing and I feel Jamie is one of the best to bring out the
best match in Thekla. I'd expect this to be a real physical match but
with a retention for Thekla. While on the subject of the Women's World
Championship I can see Thekla holding until Wembley. I do think that
Thekla vs. Mercedes Moné is the match to go for with Mercedes winning
depending on what you want to do with who it was that took out Toni
Storm. This match ruled, super physical this ruled it's that prime NEVER Openweight stuff more of this. 4.25/5
AEW Continental Championship: Will Ospreay vs. Jon Moxley
Hey
look Will Ospreay is back. While I would’ve left it to the day if All
In looks like he’s ready to go, I hope he hasn’t rushed back to cause
more issues down the line as it does feel like if he’s healthy than
August at Wembley Stadium he becomes world champion. It’s good to
remember the Death Riders especially Moxley are bad people who did bad
things. We will forget this month that the real terrorism was the
friends we made along the way. Maybe we will see Mox be nice after the
match and finally be turned on by the Death Riders for getting soft or
something. Could a London show finally see a singles match for Mox who
knows but as the first big Ospreay match since his return from injury it
should be an interesting watch. I do like the addition of this being
for the Continental title the first time Will Ospreay has been smart as
it stops The Death Riders being at ringside. Interested in who wins this
just as Ospreay is the only finalist of the Continental Classic to
never win the Continental Championship. I enjoyed the majority of this match I think Will kicked out of a bit too much but still good stuff. 4/5
AEW World Trios Championship: The Dogs (Clark Connors, David Finlay, and Gabe Kidd) (c) vs. The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong) and ???
So Kyle O'Reilly is back most likely. I don't know at the time of writing it could be Mark Briscoe, it could be Tomohiro Ishii, it could be Hologram but let's be real Kyle is Canadian and this is in Canada so you'd expect a home town win. Sucks for The Dogs who literally just won the belts it's a loss if it's Kyle and a win if it's not. They could always win them back but still 1 day reign is kinda eh (I mean it's more then I'd give I wouldn't have signed David Finlay to begin with). Should be fine I guess we will see, it would be nice to see Kyle come back he got injured at an unfortunate time just as he was getting a big push so a title win would be deserved. Was a match that happened, hope Gabe Kidd is all good. 2.5/5
AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. Kenny Omega
Devil
vs. God in a match I truly believe will go into All In as the AEW World
Champion. If we are to believe Will Ospreay will win The Owen he has a
1-1 record with both men and either match is as big of a main event as
AEW can do. While another Omega run would be nice I think MJF is doing
the best work of his career currently and unless you’re gonna have him
lose and be National Champion and do his faux American hero gimmick I’d
keep him as champion. Viewing figures are up with him as champion
(despite all the people who said they’d refuse to watch if MJF won the
belt and then continued to watch because they need to social media
likes) and the main event scene is more focused with him at the top.
Either way with the calibre of talent involved this should be a great
match. This was great stuff I really enjoyed this match good classic main event right winner so it'll be MJF vs. Ospreay at Wembley by the sounds of it. 4.5/5
Good fun stuff this show. Not the greatest AEW show but I still think it was a fun time, good to see Kevin & Kyle winning belts and lot of good stuff. Not in a rush to watch any of it back but a fun time live. Will be interested to see where it all goes from here for one of the biggest shows on the calendar in Double or Nothing next month. 4/5
