Quick Thoughts: AEW Revolution 2026
It’s 2026 and you know what that means? More PPV for me to pretend I’m reviewing while really saying nothing. That’s how it goes that’s what the probably two of you who read this are here for. I’m quite positive on wrestling that isn’t run by a sex trafficking MAGA company at the moment because I’ve been having fun watching. I’m writing this the day after going to Wrestle Queendom 8 at the O2 and what a spectacular show. I’d expect a few of those matches to be near the top of my match of the year post a rewatch. But we are here for AEW Revolution 2026 a big show for sure. The first PPV of the year for AEW and know after this is posted I’ll be up for the All In pre-sale so thoughts and prayers. I’ve been really enjoying the AEW product this year it’s continued the good quality of 2025 and seems to be attracting new viewers and fans by the week as WWE prices out and alienates fans (how anyone can still support evil company like that before you consider the dogshit product is beyond me). Anyway. We have a strong card to cover and one I’m really looking forward to.
Zero Hour
Boom & Doom ("Big Boom!" A.J. and Q. T. Marshall) vs. The Infantry (Capt. Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo)
Yeah
sure why not. Bring Big Boom AJ to All In do it Tony I want to feel the
boom under the arch in Wembley Stadium. This is a match that is
happening I don't know why I haven't paid attention to the story on ROH.
The Infantry was solid enough to guide Big Boom AJ through another
decent enough match. But still bring him over in August. Fine for what it was put the ROH Tag belts on Boom & Doom I'm 100% serious. I don't have anything else to say apart from Big Justice has a better spear than Jey Uso. 2.25/5
TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Lena Kross
Big
match for the pre-show. Lena Kross comes in and gets two title matches
in under five matches a big show of approval. I’m expecting a Willow win
here maybe some post match beat down for an injury to sell later in the
night. Should be an interesting one as I’ve not seen a lot of Lena
Kross so let’s see how she does in her first big AEW singles match. I really enjoyed this good physical match and Lena Kross looks a huge talent. Interested to see how their other match later tonight. 3.25/5
21-Man Blackjack Battle Royal for the AEW National Championship
Taking what was initially the gimmick of the International Title we have seen Ricochet and the National Tittle defended all over the world. He’s been to RevPro, New Japan and CMLL to defend the belt. It’s an interesting choice to do a battle royal for the belt I know Orange Cassidy has one for the International Title but still odd gimmick for one. Might be a way for Ricochet to lose and not be pinned I dunno we will see but with the feud between Jack Perry and Ricochet I think we only really have 1 or 2 potential winners. I do not like these matches with half the participants being on the outside most of the time. It makes it hard to follow who's in and whose out. The bit with Jack and Ricochet at the end ruled the spots on the apron ruled not enough to save this though. 2/5
Main Show
AEW World Tag Team Championship: FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) (c) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
Look they’ve tried and added some heat to this so fair play I liked the FTR beats up the Jackson family segment but the dad should’ve taken the piledriver. But man I just don’t care, I still remember spacing out during their match at All In 2023 I just did not enjoy it. I think I’m just over the feud so let’s see if it’ll be alright on the night. Man Nick Jackson's bladejob was something said the family was ring side let's run the blade coast to coast. Ok look I was wrong I am sorry that's their best match in the series I was wrong. Cage & Copeland are winning next month but still what a match, maybe Triangle TLC with the Bucks. 5/5
‘Timeless’ Toni Storm vs. Marina Shafir
So many
women’s matches on this show the stopwatch brigade will be fuming their
clout talking points are being taken away. This is a match building for
months and to be fair Marina has evolved and gotten better as a wrestler
during her time in the death riders. I do see this being the end of the
feud so I hope the match delivers on that. I really enjoyed this was the perfect level of violent for the feud in a NoDQ match. Marina real trooper for getting bitten on the nipple. Toni vs. Ronda is an interesting one that I do not care for, let's see how that goes. 3.5/5
AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita
One that’ll be interesting to see the outcome of. The Don Callis family is collecting belts and a loss for Takeshita here would further ostracise him however this would be the last time for the Death Riders to give Mox the bag, maybe the real Death Riders betrayal was the friends we made along the way. I enjoyed their two matches in the C2 & Grand Slam so interested in what happens here. Match started slowly but build up and got faster which is good. This really built up and I really got into it by the end. I'm sure Okada is happy. Good to see Will Ospreay back and remembering who took him out, I like continuity. 4.25/5
AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship: The Babes of Wrath
(Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron) (c) vs. The Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne
& Lena Kross)
For clarity in writing this before the
pre-show TBS title match. But double Willow is always good. This was
something said when she became double champion so happy to see it pay
off. You’d expect a title change here after the last match ended in a DQ
and it’s the right thing to do. It allows Willow to focus on the TBS
title which I think she’ll retain and Megan Bayne to finally get a title
in AEW. I wouldn’t be surprised if Harley and Statlander reunite as a
team for a bit for a match against MegaKross providing Statlander
doesn’t regain the world title. I also think that more teams that
already team up should be looked at to be signed by AEW I know they're
on tour in Japan until July but Hyperactive (Anita Vaughan & Safire
Reed) would be a must for me, big fan of the two of them and they'd get
over and also have great matches to help boost the tag division and are
also great singles wrestlers as well. Fine stuff for the quickness needed selling the Willow injury. Good to see Megan get a title reign. 2.5/5
Brody King vs. Swerve Strickland
A battle to determine
the most dangerous man in AEW. The heel turn for Swerve was needed it
gives him new life and new opponents like Brody King. Speaking of Brody
there’s a man I never thought would get as over as he has. The fuck ICE
stuff helps massively but he feels like a big singles star should win
one of the 900 midcard belts soon. I do expect a Swerve win and I am
interested in how a heel Swerve fits in to the main event scene. I feel
like we might see more by the end of the show. Good physical match I really enjoyed it. Kenny vs. Swerve is still going should be a big match for Dynasty but still good stuff for Brody in a big PPV singles match. 4/5
AEW Women’s World Championship 2 out of 3 Falls: Thekla (c) vs. Kris Statlander
If
you think Thekla isn’t good enough or shouldn’t be world champion
please fuck off. Imagine thinking that and saying it thinking you’re
correct? Thekla rules and he move to AEW has given her an environment
that works to here strengths and it has worked. Statlander as well is
super underrated bell to bell in my opinion never held in regard of
being one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world. I’ve enjoyed their
matches so far and wondering what they will do this time. I think this picked up from the second fall onwards and found it's groove. The ending has Statlander looking a bit dumb, wonder what is next for both. 3/5
AEW World Trios Championship: The Don Callis Family (Kazuchika
Okada, Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) (c) vs. Jet-Speed (Kevin Knight
& Mike Bailey) & Místico
Hell yeah more Mistico. You
gotta give the people (me) what they want (more Mistico). Speaking
giving the people what they want more Kevin Knight is always a strong
choice. Kevin is awaiting that breakout moment that a man across the
ring from him Kyle Fletcher had. A lot of people think there’s a Swerve
faction happening with Kevin as one of the top people to join it. I do
wonder if that’ll happen but I still feel the Don Callis Family walk out
with the win here. This picked up as it went on I got distracted and played some Pokopia and finally got Illumise so started building the house for her and Volbeat. Místico signed is good and winning the Trios Title hell yeah that's my GOAT. 3/5
Andrade El Idolo vs. Bandido
Why is this not for the ROH title? Feel like it should be raise those stakes. Either way two men motivated to be the best in the world. Andrade since his (legal) return to AEW has been on fire. Incredible match after incredible match and you’d expect it to continue here. Bandido had a good call for being 2025 wrestler of the year. Expecting a good match here. SUPER DRAGON CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP. Lot of stripping in this match you got to give the people what they want. This was a superb match real lucha hours. Let's go more of this best of 900 please. Those spinning elbows, the scorpion kick GTS, the deadlift 21 plex my God man. 4.5/5
Tornado Trios: Darby Allin, Roderick Strong & Orange Cassidy vs. The Dogs (David Finlay, Gabe Kidd & Clark Connors)
Surprised Finlay went to AEW. I had always felt he was WWE bound and if they weren’t trying to lowball him he would’ve gone. So instead of being in a group with his brother and dad he’s teaming with his other friends that left New Japan. I am about ready for something different for Darby. Since August it’s been Death Riders and then by proxy The Dogs it’s time for something new. It’s hard to get me interested in a match & feud I just want to see the end of. Didn't care but that Gore by Clark Connors was sweet as fuck. 2.25/5
Texas Death Match for the AEW World Championship: MJF (c) vs. ‘Hangman’ Adam Page
Man
I hope MJF wins. Just to shove it to the parasocial Hangman fans, they
suck and combined with Hangman taking photos with wronguns his character
has taken a dive this year (I seriously saw someone try to say his
title win at All In was a ‘here damn’ title win, I guess we can ignore
months of build now to make inaccurate points and still get clout. Will
remember for later). MJF however, I believe is doing the best work of
his career, a touring world champion not seen since the territories who
also isn’t afraid to show his ass like when he got squashed by Brody.
Lot of people get worked by MJF and then for clout want to say he’s the
worst and they don’t get worked. If you can’t tell I don’t like seeing
those echo chambers normally filled with people who think their opinion
is fact, fuck off. Either way I think this should be a good match, it’s a
match not suited to MJF’s character whereas it’s a Hangman speciality
gimmick, it should focus on an increasing level of violence until MJF by
hook or by crook wins and we can move onto the next Hangman decline and
heel turn where he takes the world title back against his word, the
desperation of the Hangman. I'll never be on board with syringe spots make me feel ill but man the escalating level of violence really did aid the feud. It went too long for my taste but was a good fun stuff I am interested to see what Hangman does now. 4/5
Overall, great show and solid start to the PPV calendar lot of good things to rewatch or watch for the first time. Now interested in how they build to Dynasty with a roster more stacked than ever. Will give this show a 4/5 as a final passing grade and look forward to Dynamite on Wednesday for the follow up. Now I need to get a few hours sleep to buy All In tickets.
