Quick Thoughts: AEW Revolution 2025
2025 when it comes to wrestling featurs a large shift in terms of the way it is viewed. Raw has been moved largely worldwide to Netflix with more moving that way for large sums and AEW now splits its broadcasts live between TNT or TBS and the MAX App in America as part of a new bumper TV deal. You could argue wrestling is hot again or that because it is a constant of posting content that TV deals that are for mega money are being signed for wrestling companies. AEW feels refreshed this year after a stop start 2024. I don't share the large negative feeling towards 2024 in AEW some have I do think this yar shows a company firing great show after great show. I don't know what the cesspool that Twitter/X says but Bluesky is largely positive on shows now. I think this is done in realtion to the change in feuds it does feel like top stars are facing top starts and while I still don't really care for the main event world title agnle this show has 4 superb feuds on the card itself so I think that combined with a stacked card makes for what should be a great show.
Pre-Show
As ever not breaking down the pre-show match by match as ever because these matches if there's multiple largely get thrown together randomly the show before. I'd have Hologram & Komander vs. Mortos & Dralistico and a Max Caster open challenge (maybe Bowens finally comes back to beat him up) adding to the current matches. I mean at least I got Hologram & Komander announced that was good I do wonder if there's another face luchador on the horizon for AEW just to make up the numbers for Hologram & Komander to match the 3 in LFI would be nice to see Neon in AEW was impressed when I saw him for RevPro last year.
Look, I'm from the UK I still don't get the Costco guys are they still popular? Is it still worth doing this partnership? I dunno and to be honest I don't care, it isn't shtick that I'm interested in but it takes up a small part of the whole AEW product and it clearly has fan response so it would make sense to keep it going. I just hope the match is good
Main Card
MJF vs. "Hangman" Adam Page
Thank goodness we have dropped the MJF and Jeff Jarrett feud. It bombed with a terrible back and forth and honestly was a waste of MJF, if you want to book a story of Jeff Jarrett winning a title before retirement have him win the Trios titles you don't care to build that division and Jarrett despite he legacy and talent is no Sting. Here we have two of AEW's best acts (yes I know it's cool to hate MJF on social media it gets lots of likes) but putting them together has helped further both in terms of where best are to go in 2025. It's a hard one to call as I think Hangman wins the World Title again this year but as a face so maybe this is a loss on a way back to a full face turn, I guess we will see. I really liked this match but maybe don't kill people on the Angels Wings. I think this feud continues on but for the moment good start to the show.
AEW TBS Championship Match: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Momo Watanabe
Winner of the International Women’s Cup uses the shot in AEW which I am surprised at. This feels like a favour as they didn't have a match for Mercedes here while it feels they wait for Statlander to win the belt in their third match. Good for Momo this can serve as a way to help get some eyes on Stardom I honestly think this match will be great on the quality of wrestler in it. This was a match for the sake of a match really it was good but still holding pattern for the TBS title until Mercedes vs. Statlander 3.
Swerve Strickland vs. Ricochet
Who would've thought that Ricochet would be such a good heel. Swerve brings the best out of his rivals and honestly Ricochet has matched his level throughout. It is honestly weird to call this a breakthrough for Ricochet something like 15 years into his career but that is what it is. Nobody in WWE thought to turns this guy heel? Good for him he's at the top of the show here and this is another great feud and should be a great match. This match fucking ruled what an incredible match that clearly had the crowd invested and Leslie Jones sweating but man good work bald Trevor you are actually good.
AEW Continental Championship Match: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Brody King
Building off of Okada's recent win against buddt Matthews this one while not having the biggest story has a real potential to showcase Brody King in a way he deserves. Now we have (rightfully) finished saying that the Hounds of Hell don't need Malakai Black you have to show this and a strong show for Brody here would help. With Omega vs. Okada set for All In you expect and Okada win here regardless.
AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) (c) (with MVP) vs. The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum)
They hurt people and tonight that is The Outrunners. I've been loving this Hurt Syndicate run and in a division AEW hasn't put the most effort into this is the right place to have them dominate without your bigger starts losing. Lashley looks as good as ever and Shelton super motivated and as good as he's ever look I think whoever beats them down the line benefits massively but that won't be The Outrunners. This was a match that happened expected winner but I'd argue it went too long should've been a squash.
AEW Women's World Championship Match: "Timeless" Toni Storm (c) vs. Mariah May
The final chapter in what is one of AEW's greatest stories has me thinking and hoping both women have key feuds and big stories going on out of this. Toni is one of AEW's best talents and this feud has elevated Mariah May as well but now in the end this match needs to be the blowoff the feud deserves. Has this feud gone on for longer then it should've? I mean Toni kinda vanished from TV during it and the majority of stuff for Mariah during that time was weaker as a result of everyone knowing it was leading to a time where Toni was coming back it does take the edge off the feud. Personally, I think the world title direction should be Toni vs. Jamie as Jamie never really got revenge on Toni for taking her belt and also The Outcasts of which she was in being the reason she was out of action. Is this Toni different to that Toni? Yeah sure but those matches would rule. Yo man, what the fuck was that. Violence on another level really I mean a Taipai death match spot my God a level of violence I never expected but what an ending to the biggest women's feud in AEW history.
AEW International Championship Match: Konosuke Takeshita (c) (with Don Callis) vs. Kenny Omega
It's great to see Kenny Omega back and back to his best. The tag match in Australia and the Gabe Kidd match show that he is back on form and this is the first big singles match. with the rumours of the International and Continental Championships merging at some point I do think Omega will win. Personally I wouldn't merge the belts if you are going to do title for title I think it would be better to have someone with two belts, we've only had one person win 2 AEW titles at the same time in PAC so add to that list. We're getting away from the point of the match but Takeshita has been great for a long time and this title run has added to that. Between AEW, NJPW and DDT I expect a big year for Takeshita who already has Tanahashi's final match in America later this year so this should be another big match off the feud they have had essentially for years. Took me a little while to get into the match I mean as you'd expect following the match beforehand but was still very good. Will need a rewatch for sure but good match for both.
Steel Cage Match: Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher
Will Ospreay is great, Kyle Fletcher is great and this feud has done a lot to raise Fletcher's stock and to show what he can do with the potential everyone said he had in Aussie Open. The real thing for Kyle is a good follow up and honestly that is to feud with Daniel Garcia over the TNT title in my opinion. Regardless you can't go wrong with a feud on personal betrayal ending in a big cage match. For both men I feel this match can really set the tone for 2025 for them and with this (likely) being the blow off I do wonder what and where both men will be by the time we reach the next PPV for AEW in Dynasty. I'd like Fletcher to stop licking everything that has blood on it man clam down. But man, what a match suoerb stuff by these two once again holy shit man the greatest cage match of all time.

AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Cope
Ah man, now we come to what isn't really clicking with me. Cope is a terrible name, come on man you're like 50 just use your actual name and this Death Riders story has forgotten what it was actually doing. Let's give the best scenario which is Christian Cage leaving as World champion so let's see. I didn't care for the match man I was done we had the main event in the last match. Fucking BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad match terrible ending man fuck all of that get the belt off of this guy it's the worst part of the show. Just whatever.
What a PPV it was great until the end. Some superb matches but man that main event stunk move the belt to Swerve now. I get not everything can be superb but man ending get the belt on Swerve ASAP let's be done with this Death Riders story it's my only negative here.
