The PGMOL Is Not Fit For Purpose

"There are two countries in Europe with professional referees, Italy & England. Not one English referee will go to the World Cup" - Arsène Wenger, 2018

Another day which has been riddled by erros not from players and managers but the highlights from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited once again getting so many decisions wrong to a baffling degree. From Brentford's offside goal standing and the VAR official 'forgot' to draw the offside line (so doing his job), West Ham's Tomáš Souček getting away with a blatant handball against Chelsea, Brighton's Pervis Estupiñán having a goal ruled out because the VAR official looked at the wrong player in the offside call and finally Mario Lemina sent off for running towards the referee. These will all be wiped off as human error and the officials given a week off before coming back no punishment at all.

It continues to be a point of contention for fans that no accountability is seen from these officials, week after week they continue to make the same errors to no punishment, if I made this amount of critical errors I would be fired from my job by refs do not face this same issue. I have the wonder why as do most fans. I should state that I think calls of the PGMOL being corrupt are wide of the mark, the mistakes are too common and to a variety of clubs. I think personally the PGMOL is incompetent and no longer fit for purpose they have got to a point where they feel untouchable and can continue to make these mistakes due to no accountability.

It has been my long standing belief that the clubs in the Premier League (and EFL) need to band together to fund an investigation into why goes on in the PGMOL. How are these refs trained? How are they monitored? What happens with these constant errors? The game cannot improve until this is done and these constant errors that refs get away with will continue. The Premier League is the richest league in the world it makes money despite these issues so it is about time something was done to improve standards.

'If I die, I'm going to ask God where the referees are before I choose between Heaven and Hell' - Arsène Wenger, 2019
