Is the MCU heading towards Secret Wars?

Spoilers for Spider-Man No Way Home and potential spoilers for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness and other future Marvel shows and films

Marvel Phase four finally got a kick in the right direction. While I really enjoyed Shang-Chi a so so Black Widow film and the divisiveness of The Eternals meant that we were for sure on a comedown from Endgame film wise and that was always going to be the case. Ignoring what are smaller stories for the TV shows (which I do enjoy all of them some more then others) the big screen . However, following Spider-Man No Way Home I think people will be changing their mind on it. While the story and characters of Shang-Chi shouldn't be slept on Spider-Man brings a big concept to the big screen in the multiverse.

Between the villains and the Spider-Men of the Sam Raimi and Mark Webb universes we are moving ahead with another massive idea one which can raise the half universe ending stakes of Thanos in Multiversal domination. It opens a lot of things for Marvel with Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and the villains associated with their Spider-Men stories being part of the MCU multiverse now we could see similar concepts being used. One main speculation going around the internet at the moment is that of Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X in the latest Doctor Strange film. With all these classic characters and with Shang-Chi talking about different dimensions as well it seems that multiverse/multi-dimensional war is coming and following the events of Loki it seems it will revolve at least in a small part around Kang the Conqueror.

But with that what is the Endgame? You have multiple dimension hopping characters and a villain in that line. Well I think they will look towards a big comic event. Infinity War and Civil War have been done and Secret Invasion is being used for a Disney Plus series I imagine next in line is Secret Wars. I'm thinking more on the lines of Secret Wars in 2015. This followed a merge of the Multiverse in a wat of mainly getting Miles Morales to Earth-616. While not the sort of Universe merging spectacle the comic was (I mean Civil War was a scaled down Civil War compared to its Comic Counterpart) I imagine something along those lines would be possible. Marvel have looked to scaled up the Multiverse and with access to the legacy character from Fox and their X-Men & Fantastic Four films they have the basis for a Multiversal war (and getting a Hugh Jackman cameo as Wolverine). The issue comes for when this happens and what you do with Fantastic Four and the fact that Secret Wars 2015 was very focused around Doctor Doom (or God Empower Doom) so you'd need to build him up. I do think this is a good number of years away.

All in all I feel this is the way the MCU is going. The step up from Universal to Multiversal war seems the right step (it's how you elevate past that. Annihilation Wave? Knull? we have a good decade until that) but we have a lot of things in the way of that from movies and TV from the New Avengers to what I could see is a Secret Invasion movie (which again would have to be massively changed between the Spider-Women Skrull and Norman Osborn) but I do think that this saga of MCU films will end with some form of Multiversal Secret Wars the question is how long it will take to get there. With a new host of heroes to be introduced in both films and Disney Plus series it might be best to for the moment just sit back and enjoy the show.
